What is the 6 Month Clutter Rule?
Have you ever had the feeling of distress when you are throwing things away? A method called the “6 Month Rule” can be used to make that easier. If you come across an item that you haven't used in the past 6 months you should toss it. With that being said there are exceptions. Seasonal items, memorabilia, specific event items, (*etc).
Why Use the 6 Month Clutter Rule?
Utilizing the 6 month rule helps you not pile up your belongings. Keeping a clutter free household has endless benefits from mental to physical health. When coming across certain items there are always the common concerns. It has sentimental value. Is it? 6 months of neglect. It may come into use some day. Hasn't been used for the past 6 months. It isn't being made anymore. There is probably a reason.
When to cycle?
Start the initial clean in the Spring or Fall time. These are the times as we transition into the major weather and season changes. Once you get the initial process started you are 1 more step away from being in the cycle. If you start the initial clean in the Spring around mid March. Wait till mid September and tackle your Fall clean out. Which would be number two for the year. Stay in this cycle and your clutter will stay at an all time low.
